Unicef: Nepal Call to Action
Joe Donaldson has created an interesting animation with a drawn rough feel for the charity, Unicef.
'Following the events that happened in Nepal on April 25th, 2015, Unicef reached out to me and asked if I would make a film to spread awareness to the worsening conditions in this region.
With the help of Antfood for music and sound design, the result is this :90 advocacy film which I researched, wrote, directed, designed and animated.
Given the nature of creating an animation for an ongoing crisis, time was not on our side. From concept to completion, this film was created in two weeks to meet the one-month anniversary of the first earthquake in Nepal. Given the limitations I faced with production, I really wanted to embrace exposing the seams and focus on this being a tonal piece. I didn't just want to expose the seams, I wanted to live in them. This was an opportunity to explore new directions and bad decisions because, at the end of the day, the pixels don't need to be perfect. All that matters is the message and generating awareness. While creating this film I had three main goals: I wanted it to feel human, to inform people of the ongoing crisis and, most importantly, how they can help.'
' I'm an Art Director at Buck living in sunny Los Angeles. When not daydreaming about the crowded streets of grey in NYC or the steamy swamps of Florida, you can find me spending time with my wonderful wife and our two cats. I'm interested in telling stories through design-driven animation and have had the privilege of working with the talented people over at Digital Kitchen, Buck, Psyop, The New York Times and the Google Creative Lab. When working outside of the commercial world, I run Jodie, the home of my personal and direct to client practice.
